Children starting life with arthritis
Help those starting life with arthritis
You may not have heard of arthritis in children before. In fact, around 15,000 children in the UK have juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), that's
1 in every 1,000 children. More than 2,500 children develop JIA each year and it can begin in children as young as 6 months, although it can appear at any age.
There is no known cure, but your donations could help fund research into new treatments for JIA to end the pain for thousands of children. We receive no government funding so we. rely entirely on your generosity.
The future is uncertain
Grace was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) at the age of just two-and-a-half. She has had to endure regular injections, drug treatments and her younger sister has already outgrown her, but she is a happy child with a strong personality.
The worst part of it all is her parents don’t know whether Grace’s arthritis will carry on dominating her life for years to come, or whether her symptoms may fade away and go into remission.
"I'd welcome anything that would help us to know how Grace’s arthritis will pan out."
Life with arthritis has its good days and bad days, but with your help our research is leading to more effective treatments. We’re working towards being able to predict how serious a child’s JIA will be, so in time we can find ways to avoid the condition developing.
